Obituary for Marjorie Brown

Marjorie (Margie) June Brown, 92, of Boaz passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Richland Hospital. Margie was the eldest of six children, born to Leo and Vergie (Banker) Holloway on March 26, 1927 in Richland County. She was united in marriage to Newell Henry Brown on September 18, 1946.

Margie graduated from teachers college and taught school for nearly four decades. She believed that, if given the opportunity to receive a fair education, every child is capable of learning and of being successful. In 1991, Margie received a Wisconsin Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) Award in recognition of her exemplary contribution on behalf of exceptional children. She was recognized by the students and staff at the Weston School District as an outstanding Friend of Education and was presented with a United State Congressional Proclamation in Recognition of Outstanding Service in the Field of Education. She retired from teaching in the classroom at age 72, but never stopped educating.

Margie valued her family, her community, and the service of our nation’s veterans. She grew up on a farm and believed in the usefulness of hard work. She loved horses and was an accomplished rider. She bowled for years and enjoyed many friendships fostered in those times. She is remembered well for her quick wit, her spirted nature, and her wonderful stories. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, was involved with the Veteran’s Memorial Fund and supported the Greater Richland Area Cancer Elimination (GRACE).

Marjorie is survived by three children: Loren (Nancy) Brown, Linda (Bart) Walsh, and Lana (Ray) Osborne; six grandchildren: Kelly Chambers, Lori (Denny) Jacobson, Jamie (Marissa) Walsh, Philip (Lauren) Pauls, Jessica (Chris) Daniels, Robin (Danny) Huttinger; sister Carol (Larry) Hynek; brother Gary Holloway; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, that she loved dearly; many wonderful extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Vergie Holloway, husband Newell Brown, sisters Lorraine Brown and Beverly Wilson, brother Jim Holloway, and great-grandson Jett Huttinger.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Pratt Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in the Fancy Creek Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, May 21 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM.
