Obituary for Marilyn Joan Anderson

Marilyn Joan (Ferris) Anderson, age 86 was called to heaven, her eternal home, on Saturday, May 11. Marilyn had Alzheimer’s disease which she bravely endured for many years until the time of her death. She was a resident of Richland Center for more than 56 years. Her last years were spent with wonderful caregivers and family at Schmitt Woodland Hills in Richland Center. Marilyn was born August 18, 1932 in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College, in DeKalb, IL, with her four year bachelor’s degree. Marilyn taught 3rd and 4th grade in Beloit WI for 2 years before pursuing additional schooling at UW-Madison. She met Hugo Anderson at UW-Madison’s Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and they were married February 2, 1958. They were blessed with four children. They shared 21 years together before Hugo’s death. Marilyn was a substitute teacher in the Richland Center Area schools. She also served as a Lunchroom and Library Assistant for many years at the Richland Center High School. Later, she worked at the Richland Center Courthouse with the Commission on Aging and Driver Escort Service.
Marilyn was known as a faithful Christian woman who desired to serve in many ways. She loved reading and learning. She enjoyed sharing her love for informative literature. She was very involved in the Richland Center community. She served at her church, Trinity United Methodist, in many different ways. She was involved in Bible study and prayer groups. She taught Sunday school and was involved in Church Women United. She opened her home to many and had interest and compassion in the issue of world missions. She was instrumental in the startup of the Family Thrift Store in Richland Center. She served for many years with Crime Stoppers. Marilyn liked church potlucks and Christian fellowship. Marilyn’s desire is that everyone knows Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. She would like you to ask yourself, “Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?” (John 3:16)
She will be missed by her four children: Margo Collins, and Dan Anderson both of Madison Wisconsin; Ruth (Randy) Foss of Appleton Wisconsin; Jim Anderson (girlfriend, Anissa Koch) of Richland Center Wisconsin; and her sister, Janice Huszti (George) of Milwaukie, Oregon; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and 1 great-grandchild on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugo Anderson and his parents, Arvid and Hanna Anderson and her parents, Gerald and Ruth Ferris.
The Memorial Service for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:30 am at Schmitt Woodland Hills Chapel-2nd floor, Richland Center WI, with Pastor Craig Peach of Schmitt Woodland Hills officiating and Pastor Wiley Gladney of Trinity UMC reading Scripture. A visitation for Marilyn will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Schmitt Woodland Hills from 10:30 am until the time of service at 11:30 am. The family would like to thank Schmitt Woodland Hills staff for their wonderful care of Marilyn. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in honor of Marilyn to Schmitt Woodland Hills or Trinity UMC. The Pratt Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
