Rita I. Staum

Rita I. Staum, 87, of Richland Center, died on Saturday, December 7, 2013. She was born January 31, 1926 in Richland County’s Marshall Township, the daughter of Alvan and Ada (Unbehaun) Ewers. Rita graduated from Richland Center High School and attended the Richland County Normal School from 1943-1945. Rita married Robert M. Staum February 9, 1946. In addition to raising their family, she was the bookkeeper at Krouskop’s Department Store until retiring in 1985. Rita was an active member of the Peace United Methodist Church, as well as volunteering with the Richland Hospital and Schmitt Woodland Hills Auxiliaries, and at the Family Thrift Shop, where she was the treasurer for greater than 20 years.

Survivors include her children:

Peggy (Larry) Grzemkowski of Green Bay

Mark (Jeanine) Staum of Hillsboro

Debbie (Mike) Benish of Oregon, Wisconsin

Six grandsons

Four great granddaughters

One great grandson

Sisters in law: Marian Ewers, Marlys Ewers and Elaine Ewers

Nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Robert Staum in February 2005, her sister Avis Romness; brothers Charles Ewers, Edwin Ewers and Owen Ewers; sisters in law: Carol Ewers and Arlene Ewers; and brother in law Maynard Romness.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Pastor Bill Busch will officiate and burial will be in the Richland Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the PRATT MEMORIAL CHAPEL on Thursday from 10:00 AM until service time at noon. The family suggests memorials in Rita’s memory be directed to Peace United Methodist Church.
